wTVision's work for the 2024 Bolivarian GamesDecember 3, 2024

The 2024 Bolivarian Games, hosted in Peru from November 27 to December 8, presented a unique and complex broadcasting challenge. wTVision delivered an entirely remote graphics production solution that underscored its bet in innovative broadcasting and live production technologies. With operations spanning multiple locations and leveraging cutting-edge technology, wTVision provided a seamless and high-quality broadcast experience for audiences across the globe with state-of-the-art graphics for the whole competition.

At the 2024 Bolivarian Games, wTVision is proud to implement graphics for an exciting array of sports, including Basketball 3x3, BMX Freestyle, Frontón/Frontball, Futsal, Aerobic Gymnastics, Kickboxing, Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Muaythai, Skateboarding, and Wushu.

In addition, the integration of a graphics toolkit with a custom-designed graphic line, which was distributed to broadcasters, ensured consistency in visual identity across all broadcasts.

A Fully Remote and Multi-National Effort

Remote graphics operations for broadcasting offer numerous advantages, particularly in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. By enabling graphics to be managed and integrated from a remote location, broadcasters can significantly reduce the need for on-site personnel and equipment, lowering overhead costs. These operations also allow for greater flexibility, as teams can work from anywhere with internet access, streamlining production workflows and improving response times. Additionally, remote graphics provide scalability, as resources can be adjusted based on the complexity of the broadcast, without the constraints of physical infrastructure, making them ideal for dynamic and fast-paced broadcasting environments.

As such, one of the defining features of this particular project was its fully remote execution, involving a team strategically distributed across Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Miami, and Madrid. This approach eliminated the need for on-site production teams while maintaining the same high standards of quality and coordination typically expected in live events. Despite the physical distance, wTVision’s experienced professionals worked collaboratively using its robust remote operations platform, ensuring a unified and efficient workflow, and integrating data from Hercules, the event's data and results provider.

The company's proprietary remote operations platform enabled real-time coordination, resource sharing, and effective team communication. By integrating state-of-the-art tools into the workflow, wTVision created an environment where technical teams could oversee production, manage systems, and deliver a flawless viewer experience from entirely different continents. All the data from the remote production charts was integrated in real-time with the event's API and scoreboard OCR, enabling full synchronization with the on-site timing systems. This ensured accurate and dynamic updates throughout the production process.

Despite the remote setup, no latency issues were observed in the graphics flow, offering the same level of quality as a local production. By sending only the graphic data to the cloud, rather than the full video signal, the system minimized data load and ensured near-zero latency in the delivery of real-time graphics. The main risk identified was the potential for internet connectivity disruptions, but the infrastructure was optimized and mitigated this risk effectively.

Cloud-Based Infrastructure

At the heart of the project was a robust cloud-based infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). By utilizing the cloud for data processing and storage, wTVision achieved exceptional scalability and reliability, which is crucial for an event of this scale. The cloud systems enabled the management of high volumes of data, real-time synchronization of operations, and uninterrupted workflows regardless of team location.

The AWS cloud setup provided unparalleled flexibility for the remote production team, ensuring that all systems were consistently available and operational throughout the games. The choice to adopt a cloud-centric approach reinforced wTVision's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to meet the dynamic demands of live event production. The system excelled during over 200 hours of production, delivering simultaneous graphics for 11 sports across 15 days, with operators working from multiple continents.

Specialized Sports Production: Remote and Distributed Operations

wTVision demonstrated the flexibility of its remote and cloud-based production model in this particular broadcasting. This approach enabled operations to be distributed across multiple geographies as needed. For instance, while the majority of the graphics operation was carried out by the Miami offices, futsal matches were produced by a team in Lisbon. The choice to centralize futsal coverage in Lisbon demonstrated the company’s ability to deploy its resources effectively, focusing expertise where it was most needed while maintaining a cohesive approach to the overall production.

This distribution of resources highlighted the ability to adapt and deliver high-quality coverage, ensuring precision and excellence across all sports even across different production locations.

Innovative Graphics Powered by R³ Space Engine & Designer with HTML Technology

wTVision’s commitment to delivering engaging and visually appealing broadcasts was evident in the dynamic graphics used throughout the Bolivarian Games. The company relied on its R³ Space Engine & Designer to create and manage real-time graphics using HTML technology, ensuring high-performance visuals that enriched the viewing experience.

The graphics played a crucial role in presenting live data, scores, and statistics, seamlessly integrating into the broadcast to provide audiences with up-to-date and relevant information. The use of HTML technology allowed for enhanced flexibility and customization, ensuring that the graphics were not only visually striking but also consistent with the branding and style of the games.

A Model for Remote and Cloud-Based Productions

The 2024 Bolivarian Games marked a milestone for wTVision regarding remote sports production, setting a new and complex workflow for efficiency and innovation. By combining a globally distributed team, advanced cloud-based systems, and powerful graphics technology, wTVision demonstrated its ability to adapt to the unique challenges of live event production in a multi-location, fully remote environment.

The use of AWS cloud infrastructure further underscored wTVision's dedication to adopting robust, scalable, and future-proof technologies that enable smooth global collaboration and consistent operational excellence.

This project showcased the technical expertise of wTVision’s team and the company’s ability to innovate and lead in the broadcasting industry. The successful execution of this project reaffirmed wTVision’s position as a trusted partner for high-profile events, offering cutting-edge and reliable solutions, even in the most challenging production scenarios.
