Augmented Reality and Broadcast Graphics for Judo Grand Prix February 15, 2022

wTVision’s technology was once again key, providing IJF with augmented reality and broadcast graphics during this year’s Portugal Grand Prix.

Our long partnership with the International Judo Federation has allowed us to explore how to better use space, relevant data, and broadcast design to perfectly capture the passionate sport at every round. This year’s Portugal Grand Prix represented another major stage where wTVision and IJF gathered forces to create a unique live broadcast, with AR and continuously updated data.

Real-time data and broadcast graphics were possible thanks to a combination of our very own JudoStats CG with our rendering engine R³ Space Engine. JudoStats CG V5 integrated the official data in real time with the help of our specialists on site, that made sure every piece of information was aired at the right time. This is the same software stack used for every IJF’s Grand Prix.

Additionally, the Augmented Reality graphics setup relied on the same combination of software (JudoStats CG and R³ Space Engine) and a tracking system provided by StYpe. AR graphics incorporated real-time data such as statistics (like points, recent form, latest fights and moves) players’ info and performance data, creating an involving and interactive environment.

wTVision has been developing a larger number of projects with augmented reality graphics for indoor sports, adding wonder and spectacle to closed arenas.

Our broadcast design team was also involved in the overall project, adapting the concept and broadcast graphics created by them into an AR solution with a compelling visual compound.
