wTVision has been developing an Augmented Reality solution with the Portuguese Football League’s main sponsor NOS, for the premium channel Sport TV broadcasts. Taking full advantage of being the real-time data provider of the main football league in Portugal, wTVision was able to develop a solution that implements virtual graphics into the field with the statistics of the competition, in real time.
The virtual solution is a combination of StYpe’s tracking system with wTVision’s very own R³ Space Engine, a flexible real-time 3D render engine. One operator is responsible for the implementation of the augmented reality graphics into live broadcasts in at least two matches every week.
The project has been in constant improvement, with more data and more impactful graphics being gradually added to enhance the viewers’ experience.
wTVision’s Augmented Reality solutions are able to cover both the creative and technical aspects of an AR production during live broadcasts. The project represented a major step for football broadcasts in Portugal, since it’s the first time data and virtual graphics are developed in such an impactful way.
