In October 2010, the Rip Curl Pro Search Portugal took place from the 7th to the 18th of October in Peniche. For this competition, wTVision together with MEDIAPRO, provided a simultaneous production to MEO, Portuguese TV Cable Network, RIP Curl and ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals).

This production included double HD production - the conventional one and stereoscopic 3D, 5 camera positions and the support of a helicopter for the final day, allowing MEO to offer its clients a 3D perspective and giving them the opportunity to experience something unique. The contestants and VIP guests had the oppotunity to see the stereoscopic live transmission from the MEO tent located in the center of operations near the beach.

ASP started webcasting in 1994 and is now providing broadcast services for surf fans on all the ASP World Tour events. They used to have the relevant information, like the heat flow, surfer’s names or their strategies in their website, but since surf is getting more and more fans every day, they wanted to watch the live videos in full screen. That’s why it’s necessary to have real-time on-air graphics in the webcast. This event was webcast live on the official website (http://live.ripcurl.com/?Portugal2010).

wTVision provided its on-air graphics service and was involved in the design and creation of the graphics (following RIP Curl Guidelines) as well as the operation service, in the field, with OB-Van. All graphics were designed in HD format (1920:1080), 4:3 safe.

Using its product for Surf, wTVision integrated all data provided by ASP and was able to provide the most accurate information in real-time: the judges’ scores, contestants ID with photo, weather, etc. This information was then turned into stunning 3D graphics. For this project, wTVision used the HDVG from ORAD.

wTVision also provided the Replay Effect as a bumper, changing from live cast to a replay and vice-versa.

wTVision is experienced in over 40 different sports. On water sports, wTVision had previous projects on competitions such as swimming or rowing. This was the first time wTVision did a Surf project, but once again, wTVision staff shows their versatility in doing a new project and facing challenges on a very short time-frame.

Following the success of this project, wTVision was at Hawaii to provide its services to WindowSeat Pictures on the 2010 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing which started on November 12.
