November marked the first of a whole season of episodes that will take the latest drone technology into the Spanish TVs every Sunday. Drone Riders is the name of the show, Barcelona Televisió (BTV) the TV channel and wTVision the company responsible for the design of the TV graphics templates, including opener, wipe and bumper.
Thirty cameras record flying drones, that go past 120km/h, racing through Barcelona, in an innovative TV Show that poses many technical challenges and is presented in a Grand Prix format: every month the competition moves to a different place, with free practice, quarterfinals, semifinals and final. A national competition will then complete the last part of this thrilling broadcast.
Mediapro is in charge of the production and the large experience of the media group in other competitions was crucial to tackle the high complexity of this TV show, from the technical aspects of the broadcast, including wTVision’s graphics, to its direction on sight involving 25 highly-skilled professionals.
Thirty to fifty pilots, divided by five different teams, will challenge each other with racing drones, controlled by a remote and special glasses that allow them to see the track from the drone’s perspective. In the episodes without Grand Prix, Drone Riders will explore different aspects of the drone technology, their pilots and the fans.
